Two named to fill vacant judgeships in 36th District Court
Two new judges have been appointed in 36th District Court in Detroit by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, the governor s office announced Wednesday.
Named to the judgeships are attorney Sean B. Perkins and Millicent D. Sherman, the court s chief magistrate.
Perkins is an attorney at the Perkins Law Group PLLC where he has handled felony and misdemeanor criminal cases, personal injury and no-fault civil cases, and bankruptcy cases.
Perkins, who also is also a benefits representative for UAW Local 387 at Ford s Woodhaven Stamping facility, worked at the plant as a Hi-Lo driver and pipefitter before going to law school.
The Honorable Alice Lee Gilbert, most recently of Bloomfield Township, died Dec. 9. She was 88.
Her prolific and storied career was launched when she graduated from law school in 1956 as one of just two women in a class of 124. The next several decades would see Judge Gilbert as a woman of many âfirsts.â Among them, first female judge elected to Oakland County Circuit Court â which also made her the first female to hold a county-wide position for Oakland  â first female member of the Oakland County Bar Association, and first judge in Michigan to utilize and implement computer technology for court administration, in 1969. She was also a founding member of the Michigan Chapter of National Organization of Woman and the Oakland County Womenâs Bar Association.
