OGDENSBURG â Conflict ensued at the Monday night City Council meeting, which led to one person being ejected as councilors ultimately voted to appoint two new trustees to the Ogdensburg Public Library Board of Trustees.
Councilors William B. Dillabough, Steven M. Fisher, John A. Rishe and Mayor Jeffrey M. Skelly voted in favor of appointing Christopher B. Lalone and Jamie R. Amo to the board. But councilors Nichole L. Kennedy, Michael B. Powers and Daniel E. Skamperle voted against the new appointments, citing violations of the board bylaws.
Prior to councilors voting to appoint the new trustees, multiple city residents expressed their concerns to council about the process that led to Mr. Lalone and Mr. Amo being nominated to serve on the board.

OGDENSBURG – A debate over Ogdensburg Public Library Board of Trustees appointments got heated Monday after the mayor took no action on the matter despite requests from the public.
Several members of the public called on Mayor Jeffrey M. Skelly to appoint candidates recommended by the Ogdensburg Library Board of Trustees to fill three seats on their board.
“The appointments to the library board are absolutely the mayor’s and confirmed by the city council,” City Manager Stephen Jellie told board members. “That is the law sent to me by Michelle McLagan, their board president.”

OGDENSBURG – The Ogdensburg Public Library Board of Trustees has concluded that City Councilor Steven Fisher violated the library’s sexual harassment policy in a March 15 Facebook post.
In the post, Fisher said Library Director Penny Kerfien has “gotten a little bitchy.” He also said he hoped the library’s proposition to increase funding from taxpayers by $225,000 to $350,000 would be voted down in May.
Although Fisher apologized and said the message had been intended to be private, it was posted on the Friends of the Ogdensburg Public Library Facebook page.

OGDENSBURG The Ogdensburg Public Library Board of trustees submitted a letter to City Council Monday requesting support for a public referendum that would provide $225,000 in additional taxes to help fund the library.
The city has been defunding the library in recent years as it works to balance its books and plans to completely end all funding to the library next year.
The move has pushed the library to collect its own taxes through a public referendum attached to the Ogdensburg School District Budget. Although the two are voted on separately, the referendum includes the entire Ogdensburg school district and will be held at the same time as the school budget vote.
