One of the most enjoyable and highly successful annual events in Oak Ridge celebrates its 30th anniversary with its Tuesday, March 23, 2021, virtual event at 11:30 a.m. It is the Lunch 4 Literacy event co-sponsored by Altrusa International of Oak Ridge and the Oak Ridge Breakfast Rotary Club.
Our speaker this year, Ruta Sepetys, is a Lithuanian-American writer of historical fiction, a No.1 New York Times bestselling author, an international bestselling author, and winner of the Carnegie Medal. As usual, this reviewer attempts to cover a range of genres so that various readers’ interests may be represented. My writer friend in Atlanta, after reading one of my reviews, affirmed that I am not a “genre snob.” How boring it would be if everyone read the same stuff! Oak Ridge BOE renames new preschool to honor Scarboro, community heroes

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. The Oak Ridge Board of Education approved the renaming of the Oak Ridge Preschool to The Oak Ridge Schools Scarboro Preschool with a vote of 4 to 1.
BOE Chairman Keys Fillauer said the board also approved to designate rooms inside the building in honor of Scarboro community heroes Arizona Officer, George Walker, Fred Brown and Sallie McCaskill with a vote of 3 to 2.
