Newsmax's Trump Facebook Ad Boosted Fossella's Staten Island Borough President Bid

Screengrab/Facebook Ex-Rep. Vito Fossella’s last-minute, game-changing endorsement from former President Donald Trump in the Staten Island borough president GOP primary got a paid, targeted Facebook boost from an unexpected source: conservative cable news outlet Newsmax. Like many other news organizations, Newsmax Media Inc. regularly spends money to promote its stories on the social media platform. But Newsmax’s $25,000 expenditure for its piece touting the Trump endorsement in the local race stood out, given that it was the only of the cable outfit’s 54 ad buys last month that targeted a single state New York leading up to the city’s June 22 primary election.

More driver misery as New Jersey plans border war over congestion pricing (opinion)

More driver misery as New Jersey plans border war over congestion pricing (opinion) Updated 3:56 PM; Facebook Share STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Congestion pricing hasn’t even started yet and it’s already causing hostilities to break out between New York and New Jersey. New York lawmakers want to charge drivers to enter Manhattan below 60th Street. The plan needs federal approval and had languished under President Donald Trump. But the election of President Joe Biden has breathed new life into congestion pricing, with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg putting the approval process back on track. But here’s the thing: A lot of New Jersey residents work below 60th Street in Manhattan. It’s estimated that congestion pricing could cost them an additional $3,000 a year.
