AUBURN â The DeKalb County Plan Commission Wednesday voted to send a favorable recommendation to the DeKalb County Commissioners on a new DeKalb County Trails Plan.
The plan will be used to guide future planning and development of trails in unincorporated DeKalb County with connections to neighboring counties and municipalities and their existing trails networks.
Having an official, adopted plan will make the county eligible to apply for state and federal grants to develop the trails, the plan commission heard.
The county commissioners will consider the plan July 19 at 9:30 a.m.
The development of a trails plan began in 2019 with a meeting of the non-profit DeKalb County Trails Inc., which worked on it with the Auburn/Waterloo Trail Committee. Due to COVID-19, the plan did not move forward for a period of time, said Chris Gaumer, the countyâs zoning administrator and director of development services.

Several Indiana State Parks Looking for Summer Campground Hosts
Spring is here with summer not too far behind. For many people, that means breaking the camper or tent out of storage and heading to one of the many great state parks we have in Indiana. If you re a regular camper at any of these parks, you re likely familiar with the campground host. These individuals usually have a highly visible spot somewhere on one of the loops along the main road that runs through the campground, or near the entrance to it, depending on the park, with a posted sign that clearly lets everyone know their role. They get to camp for free in exchange for performing certain duties around the campground. If that thought sounds appealing to you, you re just the type of person the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is looking for.
