OLEAN, NY Ten city residents voiced their opinions on the proposed Civilian Review Board during the Thursday Olean Police Reform and Reinvention Committee’s meeting to discuss the City of Olean Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative Plan.
Melissa Ensell, Kevin Dougherty, Daniel Gayton, Gary Harvey, Patrick Morgan, Paula Swier, Victoria Swier, Sarah Keenan, Taha Pascucci and Ezra Johnson gave their perspectives on the new measures at the Zoom meeting held by the committee.

OLEAN Five residents voiced support for the addition of a Civilian Review Board during the Wednesday Olean Police Reform and Reinvention Committee’s public hearing on the city’s proposed plan for police reform.
During the Zoom session, Daniel Gayton, Craig Klose, Gary Harvey, Victoria Swier and Ezra Johnson said the board would benefit both the community and the police department by providing a neutral, outside entity. They also said the addition of the board should not be seen as an attack on police officers.

OLEAN, NY The Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative has completed its plan of reviewing police policies and providing recommendations, Mayor William J. Aiello’s announced on Friday.
Some recommendations in the plan include an expanded role for social workers to collaborate with police, the inclusion of a second school resource officer for the city and a definition of the school resource officer role, the exploration of property tax incentives and sponsorship programs for officers, community policing initiatives, police department accreditations, police training changes, the creation of a civilian review board, and the introduction of more resources to reduce the stress felt by police officers.
