Cocco Scores in Javelin, Tigers Advance Eight to Finals on Thursday

RALEIGH, N.C. The Clemson track and field program scored its first point of the 2021 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships and advanced eight athletes onto their respective finals during Thursday’s action at the Paul Derr Track Facility on the campus of NC State. Clemson will resume action on Friday at 12:30 p.m. as the final day of competition in the women’s heptathlon gets underway. Ethan Cocco got the Tigers on the scoreboard by placing eighth in the men’s javelin throw to open the championships on Thursday morning. The freshman from Mt. Pleasant, S.C., threw a personal best of 63.18 meters (207 feet, 3 inches) in the second round to become No. 7 all-time at Clemson. Cocco entered the meet occupying the No. 8 position with his previous best of 61.61m set during the Tennessee Challenge earlier in May. On Thursday, Cocco eclipsed the 60-meter mark on four of his six throws.

The Clemson track and field program is set to compete at the 2021 ACC Outdoor Championships from May 13-15 in Raleigh, N.C., at the Paul Derr Track Facility on the campus of NC State. This week's competition will begin on Thursday, May 13, at 11 a.m. with the men's javelin and will conclude on Saturday, May 15, following the men's 4x400m relay at 8:40 p.m. All three days of this year's outdoor championships will be broadcast live on ACCNX.  We're feeling good about the meet, said Clemson's Director of Track and Field Mark Elliott. CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson track and field program is set to compete at UCF’s Knights Invite from April 23-24 at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex in Orlando, Fla. Spectators will be allowed at the meet, but will be required to remain in the bleachers at the track and field stadium. Masks are also required at all times and everyone is encouraged to social distance. Clemson will start its competition on Friday, April 23, at 6:30 p.m. with the women’s 400-meter hurdles and will resume action at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday with the women’s 4x100m relay.

Sprinters Lead the Way at USC Open COLUMBIA, S.C.  The Clemson Track and Field program picked up 15 top-five finishes, six event victories and a pair of top-ten all-time outdoor marks on Saturday at the USC Open. Senior Marcus Parker took home individual victories in both the 100-meter (10.40), the 200 meter (20.35) and ran the second leg of the winning 4×100 relay to lead the 20th-ranked men. Rebekah Smith (100m), Trishauna Hemmings (100mH) and Leah Disher (800m) won their respective events for the women as well. “This is a good continuation of how the season started,” said Director of Track and Field Mark Elliott. “All-around, we had many good performances and across the board, happy with how we competed today.”
