  A former Detroit cop was sentenced Tuesday in federal court to six years and eight months in prison for extortion. Deonne Dotson, 49, was accused of accepting bribes from auto collision shops in exchange for referring stolen and  abandoned vehicles recovered in the city to their shops. Authorities say he also created false police reports in exchange for money from the businesses. Vehicle owners didn t know Dotson was paid by the collision shops when they agreed to have their cars fixed by the businesses.  Five other Detroit cops pleaded guilty and served prison time for similar crimes. All six officers were employed by the department when they committed the crimes.

A federal grand jury decided this week that the case against former Michigan resident Ylli Didani, 43, can go to trial. Didani is charged with conspiracy to distribute cocaine. It is alleged that Didani was the leader of an international drug trafficking organization with ties to the United States, Mexico, South America and Europe. The criminal complaint includes details of a scheme to use an underwater drone to smuggle cocaine to Europe, and WDIV Detroit has identified a Michigan CEO who was allegedly helping to manufacture the drone. The complaint also says law enforcement has seized more than $100 million-worth of cocaine from Didani’s organization.

Rochester Hills man charged with stealing over $1 million from U.S. Postal Service Shutterstock image Advertisement ROCHESTER HILLS Michael Rymar, 59, of Rochester Hills, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly embezzling government funds from the U.S. Postal Service. The indictment alleges that over the course of a three-year fraud scheme, Rymar, who owns Horizons Materials & Management LLC, stole over $1.2 million from the Postal Service. His attorney, Anjali Prasad, said the indictment makes no sense and that her client was singled out when postal employees should be brought to justice. According to the government, Postal Service engineers awarded Rymar’s company with over $5 million in contracts for repairs on Postal Service buildings in Michigan and New York between 2015 and 2018.
