ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) Saturday s heavy downpours have creeks roaring and local parks flooding.
The open field at Ellison Park turned into swampy wetlands.
The park is at the bottom of a big hill off Blossom Road which makes it prone to flooding.
The water level in the middle of the park near some of the lodges and shelters was creeping close to the walkway, even crossing over the path at points. Parts of the park are blocked off for that reason.
In another field at the park, there are at least six inches of water in the middle of a giant puddle. A lot of the Ellison Park water will drain into Irondequoit Creek which winds through the park.

We are definitely going back to Penfield! Thanks to a tip from one of Rosie’s fans, we discovered Penfield’s Channing H. Philbrick Park this week. It was so nice we’ll return to explore more of this town’s trails and there are many.
One of the town’s oldest parks, Philbrick Park just west of the intersection of Five Mile Line Road and Route 441 has two trails running through its 19 acres.
Rosie got pretty excited about all the anglers along the roaring waters of Irondequoit Creek, and who could blame her? That’s a sure sign of spring.

Washington Steelhead
Mature Washington steelhead begin to enter Lake Ontario tributaries in small numbers as early as mid-September. By mid-October the run has intensified as the water temperatures of the streams drop to the optimum range of 45-58 degrees F for migration. Late October thru November, before water temperatures get cooler than 40 degrees F, is typically one of the best times to fish for Washington steelhead in the tributaries. This is when they are aggressively feeding. As water temperatures drop into the 30 s, the run will slow considerably; however brief warming periods will bring new fish into the tributa

In the dark of a midwinter night, on the banks of the Potomac River, the cannon fired and the band played and the multicolored rockets flew, as the Republic celebrated a new president and an old promise, to liberty and independence and the will of we, the people.
In the dark of that same midwinter night, near the banks of the Irondequoit Creek, in the thundering roar of 11 tons of olive-drab mercy, three soldiers drove a big Black Hawk over farm and field and family home, training to fight and training to save, keeping the promise of This We’ll Defend, keeping the flag flying and the home fires lit and doing the will of we, the people.
