PENDLETON â With more events returning to Oregon and Umatilla County, Pendleton is moving fast to play host, including for Oregon Swimmingâs 2021 Championships from to July 22-25 for swimmers 11 years and older.
Oregon Swimming, a local swimming committee of USA Swimming, put on the championships, which normally take place at Mount Hood Community College in Gresham. But, Mount Hood made the decision during COVID-19 to not open for any events this summer, forcing Oregon Swimming to find a new venue for their championship event.
âInitially we didnât even know if we would be able to hold a championship meet,â said Debbie Laderoute, the executive director of Oregon Swimming.

Kex Reopens June 9 for Hotel Guests and Diners
After a lengthy closure, the Portland outpost for Icelandic hotel Kex will reopen for the summer, alongside its restaurant and rooftop bar. Dóttir, Kex’s restaurant, will reopen with a new chef, Michael Zeman; Zeman has spent time at Farm Spirit and Ok Omens, and plans to rely on fermentation and preservation methods for the restaurant’s menu. The bar, Lady of the Mountain, will serve low-proof cocktails, weekend brunch, and snacks, which the restaurant’s press release describes as “tropical Northwest.” Both the bar and restaurant are accepting reservations; the hotel is now taking reservations for overnight guests, as well.
