MDNA appoints new executive director  January 30, 2021 on News NORTHEAST HARBOR – The Board of Directors of the Mount Desert Nursing Association (MDNA) has announced the appointment of Amy McVety, MS, RN, as the organization’s new executive director. The association bids farewell to Executive Director Heather Lewis, who is stepping down after five years as leader of the organization.  MDNA, established in 1949, is MDI’s only home health care agency. Patients include year-round and seasonal residents who require skilled care as well as visits from home health aides. These aides oversee patients recovering from surgery or help care for folks with chronic and/or long-term illnesses.

Lessons learned in a pandemic year January 6, 2021 on News MOUNT DESERT ISLAND It started out like any other year, but 2020 took a big turn for what some would consider the worst year in recent history. While a global pandemic slowed our lives to a mere tick tock of the clock, the killing of a Black man in Minneapolis incited protests, and more people turned out to vote than in any other presidential election. Many watched the world go by from their living rooms or chose to binge watch whatever their favorite streaming platform offered. Others took up hobbies like baking bread or cooking what could no longer be ordered from their favorite restaurant.

Lynam funds boost local nonprofits - Mount Desert Islander

Lynam funds boost local nonprofits MOUNT DESERT ISLAND –With grants totaling $154,000, this year’s Hattie A. & Fred C. Lynam Trust recipients from Mount Desert Island say they plan to put the funds to good use across their organizations. For some it means being able to operate in the coming year and for others the funds will be used to expand programming or meet other critical needs.   The recipients were selected by Bar Harbor Trust Services, which helps to support charitable, religious and education organizations that are specifically beneficial to the people of Mount Desert Island.  The bank, through the Lynam Trust awarded grants to 30 organizations, including the Abbe Museum, Bar Harbor Food Pantry, Camp Beech Cliff, Harbor House Community Center, Neighborhood House, Mount Desert Nursing Association and Southwest Harbor Public Library.
