Kathmandu, May 25 (IANS) As the current spring season draws to an end, climbers and expedition organisers have reported more Covid-19 cases on the world s tallest peak, Mt. Everest, while an official from the Nepali Department of Tourism has denied it, saying no written reports were presented yet.

Nepal says Everest climbing continues despite Covid-19 cases

A Nepali government official said on Monday that many foreign climbers were continuing their attempts to summit Mount Everest despite reports of a Covid-19 outbreak at the base camp of the world s tallest peak.
In April, a Norwegian climber was evacuated from the base camp of the 8,848m mountain and flown to Kathmandu, where he tested positive for Covid-19. He has since returned home.
Lukas Furtenbach, of the Austrian Furtenbach Adventures company, evacuated his team from the mountain this month saying there was a sharp rise in Covid-19 cases at the base camp. ....

The team responsible for a night-time high-altitude rescue of two trapped climbers in the Southern Alps has been recognised for their efforts.
The Otago Rescue Helicopter, Maritime NZ s Rescue Coordination Centre NZ (RCCNZ), the Department of Conservation Aoraki Mount Cook Alpine Rescue Team (AMCART) and Incident Management Team were awarded a Certificate of Achievement at the New Zealand Search and Rescue (NZSAR) Awards on Tuesday. ....
