Vermont Symphony Orchestra concert tent On a Wednesday in mid-May, I entered the Stowe Community Church to see the first live performance of classical music I had experienced in more than a year: Middlebury pianist Diana Fanning playing works by Maurice Ravel, Fédéric Chopin and Franz Schubert. The formidable entrance requirements included emailing an image of my COVID-19 vaccination card to Stowe Performing Arts, which hosted the concert. Audience members were led to seats spaced six feet apart. But the payoff was hearing those nuances of interpretation and volume that virtual mediums never quite capture. As masks fall away and the weather warms, classical musicians schedules are filling up with live gigs, and festivals are reviving their summer seasons. String Theory at the Hunter, in partnership with Lee University and the Hunter Museum of American Art, will present the second installment of String Theory @ Home, a virtual performance for all to view. The event will premiere on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., following a pre-concert Backstage Pass at 6 p.m. to visit with the artists.
The all-star ensemble returns with two of Schubert’s iconic works for the second part of this concert. Violinist Jennifer Frautschi, violist Paul Neubauer, and cellist Edward Arron form a trio performing Schubert’s String Trio in B-flat Major. Bassist Thomas Van Dyck and Artistic Director Gloria Chien join the trio to bring to life Schubert’s much-loved Trout Quintet as part of the String Theory @ Home concert.

String Theory at the Hunter, in partnership with Lee University and the Hunter Museum of American Art, will continue it twelfth season with String Theory @ Home, a virtual concert featuring an all-star performance. The event will premiere on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., following a pre-concert Backstage Pass at 6 p.m. to visit with the artists.
Along with Artistic Director Gloria Chien on piano, musicians Edward Arron, cello, Jennifer Frautschi, violin, Paul Neubauer, viola, and Thomas Van Dyck, bass, will perform Schumann’s Piano Trio No. 1 and Fauré’s Piano Quartet No. 1 for a “magical musical evening.”
