The Canadian Game Awards took place April 9th and celebrated the Canadian gaming industry. Awards went out to big AAA titles and indie games alike, and there were even some for Canadian esports players.
If it feels like it wasn’t too long ago that we had the last Canadian Game Awards (CGAs), well, you’re not wrong. The 2020 CGAs were delayed due to COVID-19 and instead of taking place in April as originally planned, the CGAs happened in September.

Why it matters: This year the sixth annual Game Awards Show just happened to coincide with the launch of Cyberpunk 2077. While CD Projekt Red s epic RPG may end up being the biggest game released in 2020, it was just a bit too late to score a nomination.
The Last of Us Part II ended up as top dog at this year s Game Awards, winning seven of its 10 nominations, including Game of the Year. No other game came even close to taking home that many awards. Second place in award count was a three-way tie between Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Hades, and Among Us with two awards each.

The Game Awards has become the defacto final note for the video game industry each year. 2020 was no different, and despite the effects of COVID throughout, the show still offered plenty of new games, fresh footage, and more indications of what to expect in 2021.

The Game Awards took place in the early hours of December 11, 2020, in India. The event also brought with it reveals of upcoming anticipated games. The last of Us part 2 won Game of the year.
The Last of Us Part 2 swept The Game Awards this evening, taking home six wins including Game of the Year.
It was also the winner of Best Narrative, Best Audio Design, Best Action-Adventure Game, and the inaugural Innovation in Accessibility award.
Other games that took home multiple awards included Innersloth s Among Us, Supergiant s Hades, Square Enix s Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and Sucker Punch s Ghost of Tsushima, all with two apiece.
The Game Awards also honored three new global gaming citizens: CheckPoint s Dr. Jennifer Hazel, Akiki Interactive s Dr. Adam Gazzaley, and the organization Latinx in Gaming.
And earlier today, the show celebrated 50 individuals as part of its inaugural Future Class representing the bright, bold, and inclusive future of video games.
