Seven Hi-Liner Athletes Qualify For State Track At

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City hosted several schools for a Pop-Up track meet at the Dacotah Bank Track at Hanna Field. It was a good day for the Hi-Liners nine meet 1st place finishes, 31 personal records, five new members of the the Valley City Outdoor Top 10 lists, and seven athletes that qualified for the State Track Meet. Jaden Compson won the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Compson was also the anchor leg on the 4×100 meter relay team that qualified for the state meet. Other members of that relay are Evan Mielke, Austin Shape and Carter Borg. Shape and Compson had already qualified for state. Shape in the 100 and 200 Meter dash and Compson in the 100.

Compson Signs With VCSU

In 2019, the last year there was a State Track And Field Championship, Compson was a member of the Hi-Liner 4×100 relay team that qualified for State. He ran the anchor leg with teammates Evan Mielke, Cade Powers, and Austin Shape. During that season, as a sophomore, Compson took second in the 60 meter dash at the NDSU JV Invitational Indoor Meet. And was on the 4×200 relay team that took third at that meet. During the outdoor season, he took first in the 100 meters at the Bill Jansen Last Chance Meet, and second in the Mustang Invitational T & F Meet. He was part of four relay teams that placed third or better. The 4X100 with Austin Shape, Austyn Thornton and Evan Mielke, they took second at the Joan Halland Invitational and Cade Powers joined Mielke, Shape and Compson for a first place finish at the Bill Jansen Last Chance. The 4×200 team of Mielke, Shape, Powers and Compson took third at the Mustang Inviatational and first at the Bill Jansen Last Chance.

Hi-Liners Get Six #1 Seeds For State

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – In this time of COVID, the State Wrestling Tournament is set up a bit differently than in years past in Class A. Since there were no regional tournaments in Class A, the seeding process was a bit different. The East and West Region were seeded separately with the top eight wrestlers in each weight class. Then at the state tournament, they would cross bracket. I.E. , the west #1 would wrestle the east #8, East #1 wrestler West #8 etc. The other 16 wrestlers would be a random draw. 32 wrestlers were allowed for each weight class, but none of the weights have that many. The number of wrestlers range from 19, at 195 to 26 at 152.

Hi-Liners Down Firebirds In Non-Conference Dual

DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – With one month to go before the State Wrestling Tournament, Valley City continues to rack up impressive wins and looking like a state championship contender. Thursday night in Devils Lake, the Hi-Liners handed the Firebirds their second loss of the season, a 41-29 dual win. Both of Devils Lake’s losses have been to Valley City. After Broden Muske started off with a forfeit, Jonathan Redearn, Jonah Schuldheisz and Carson McGough picked up wins. Schuldheisz and McGough’s were by pin. Four matches in, Valley City led 21-0. Devils Lake would pick up a pin at 285 to cut the lead to 21-6. But Valley City would take the next three matches. A tech fall by Koye Grebel at 106. And pins by Koltyn Grebel and Logan Navara at 113 and 120 respectively. Novara’s was in 36 seconds. Hi-Liners lead 38-6. The dual wasn’t quite clinched yet.
