Anthem, Dignity contract dispute leaves many North State policyholders in limbo

North State residents insured by Anthem Blue Cross could find themselves looking for an alternative hospital for care as the insurance giant is locked in a contract dispute with Dignity Health.
Dignity has three facilities in the region: Mercy Medical Center Redding, Mercy Medical Center Mount Shasta and St. Elizabeth Community Hospital in Red Bluff.
Mercy Medical Center also is the only hospital in Shasta County that offers maternity services.
The two sides have been negotiating for several months and continue to do so in the hopes of reaching a deal. Anthem sent a letter to policyholders last week stating the current contract expired July 15.

The hospital will be lit up with blue lights from this evening until March 14 to mark the one-year anniversary of the World Health Organization determining COVID-19 a global pandemic on March 11, 2020. COVID-19 has brought uncertainty and fear, and as we reflect on the challenges from this last year we honor and celebrate the perserverance and resiliency of our staff, the hospital said in a press release.
Also lit in blue will be Dignity Health s other north state hospitals, including Mercy Medical Center Redding and St. Elizabeth Community Hospital in Red Bluff, and Redding s Sundial Bridge.
