The Carroll County Legends advanced to the championship game of the 10-under Cal Ripken state baseball tournament in North Little Rock on the first weekend of July.
The Legends rallied to defeat Stuttgart 12-5 in their first game of the tournament, then shut out Bismarck 12-0 to move into bracket play. From there, the Legends beat Bismarck 12-3 to advance to the semifinals.
In the semis, the Legends rolled to a 15-0 victory over Lakewood, highlighted by a nine-run outburst in the first inning that included eight stolen bases.
In Sundays championship game against Arkadelphia, the Legends took a 2-0 lead on Hayden Campbells two-run double and still held a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth before Arkadelphia rallied to win 6-2.

Two organizations have joined forces with one shared goal in mind: building an intentional pipeline to get more students of color into tech.
For the next five years, Raytheon Technologies, which specializes in aerospace and defense, will contribute nearly $8 million to support scholarships, internships and mentoring for high school students of color participating in the Kapor Center s SMASH (Summer Math and Science Honor Academy) program. Raytheon will also provide 10 SMASH students with $40,000 engineering and computer science scholarships for college.
The partnership is a part of Raytheon s 10-year, $500 million Connect Up initiative with eight organizations including SMASH, an intense three-year college-prep program where students study STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) courses and spend their summers at one of 10 college campuses across the country.
Brief Biography
Eli Kennedy is the Chief Executive Officer of SMASH. Eli has focused on growing SMASHâs impact by piloting new innovations and is on track to more than double the number of SMASH programs across the nation since joining in 2016. Prior to SMASH, Eli served as the senior vice president of Redbird Advanced Learning, a research-Âbased EdTech company, and as the president and CEO of the Pacific Charter School Development, where he developed over 50 public charter school facilities, raised more than $30M in new philanthropic funding, and scaled the organization as it expanded into three new states. Eli has served as a director at the Broad Foundation and led a region for Platform Learning, a tutoring company focused on low Âincome students. Prior to focusing on education, Eli worked in a strategic management capacity for a technology startup and as a strategy consultant for Andersen Consulting and USWEB/CKS.
