Solomon Airlines has announced an expansion of the national tourism initiative ‘Iumi Tugeda Holidays’ in time for Solomon Islands Independence Day, to further support the local tourism industry and encourage more Solomon Islanders to travel on the discounted holiday deals throughout 2021.
With additional accommodation operators in the Western, Temotu and Makira Provinces now joining the programme, from today, Iumi Tugeda Holidays includes 47 tourism operators offering heavily discounted accommodation and travel opportunities across 12 destinations through to 31 March, 2022.

USGS posted the following summary with interesting information about the activity at the volcano during the weeks preceding today s new eruption: For the past several weeks, the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) has recorded ground deformation and earthquake rates at Kīlauea Volcano s summit and upper East Rift Zone that have exceeded background levels observed since the conclusion of the 2018 lower East Rift Zone eruption and summit collapse. Beginning in September 2020, increased rates of uplift were observed by GPS stations in Kīlauea s upper East Rift Zone. In the past month, increased uplift has also been measured at GPS stations in Kīlauea s summit region.
