The 22-year-old was originally charged on June 16, and the 29-year-old on May 10. The pair appeared in the Napier District Court via Audio Visual Link (AVL) today before Judge Mina Wharepouri. The charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm were withdrawn by the prosecution for both men, as they were replaced with the charge of murder. Defence counsels Eric Forster and Roger Philip entered not-guilty pleas for both men and elected trial by jury. Both men were remanded in custody until their next appearance in August. Lui died on March 29 after being assaulted outside his home in Pandora, Napier. He was taken to Hawke’s Bay Hospital in a serious condition after the incident in Mersey St about 1.20pm, but died soon after arrival.

A Hawke s Bay early childcare worker who took intellectual property and information relating to the business of her former employers has been discharged without conviction.
The woman, whose name was permanently suppressed by Judge Chris Sygrove at her sentencing in the Hastings District Court, had admitted accessing a computer for dishonest purposes.
