One point, though, was all it took to give the Panthers a winning margin over the Terriers to complete a sweep of the meet after the girls team ran away from the field. Knute Linehan leaped his way to three wins for the Thetford boys, taking the top spot in long jump, triple jump and high jump. Tobin Durham added a win in the 1,500 meters in 4 minutes, 20.37 seconds. Ben Mattern won the 3,000 meters in 11:23.87 for the Panthers. ....

But after a pep talk from head coach Jesse Soulia, the Panthers made a big comeback and won 26-14 for their first victory of the season. The Panthers (1-3) scored 10 runs in the third to spark that comeback. “Tonight, I watched my team come together and support each other on and off the field,” Soulia said. “Players playing in places that they had not played before. Hits were contagious tonight and I surely enjoyed seeing all the smiles.” ....

Bissaillon struck out 15 against four walks and three hits surrendered. The senior wasn’t done there, going 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs for the Wasps (2-1). Memphis Begin walked three times and came around to score a run each time. Jackson Martin added two hits, scored twice and drove in one. Local roundup: MVCS girls cruise in state tournament opener Sydney Goodwin Modified: 3/16/2021 10:25:10 PM QUECHEE The third-ranked Mid Vermont Christian School girls basketball team quickly put to rest any upset concerns, opening Tuesday night with an 18-3 run en route to a 69-22 victory over 14th-seeded Richford to open the VPA Division IV playoffs. Sydney Goodwin led the MVCS attack with 26 points, including 12 from the free-throw line. Rachel Horner-Richardson and Hayley Goodwin each had 18 points. The Eagles (8-2) built a 33-12 lead at halftime and scored 20 points in the third quarter to put the game on ice. “We got off to a quick start and were able to take control early. We have typically started slow in past playoff games, so I was happy with our focus and effort tonight,” MVCS coach Chris Goodwin said. ....
