We dare you to walk by the College of Fine Arts without pausing to take in the vibrant abstract painting of multicolored stripes hanging in the Faye G., Jo, and James Stone Gallery window. The arresting canvas,
A Lifetime of Skies, painted by Cailyn Masson (CFA’21), offers a hint of what’s inside and across the street at 808 Comm Ave: a mesmerizing combination of painting, sculpture, printmaking, and graphic design comprising this year’s BFA Thesis Exhibition.
The work by 61 talented School of Visual Arts seniors is on view through May 14 at the Stone Gallery and the Commonwealth Gallery, both at 855 Commonwealth Ave., as well as in satellite shows in CFA’s fifth floor studio areas and the first floor hallway at 808 Comm Ave.

MIDWAY, N.C. North Davidson will now be alone in first place when looking at the Central Carolina 2A Conference softball standings.
The Black Knights defeated Oak Grove, 5-0, on Thursday night. North Davidson went into this week ranked No. 5 in the midseason HighSchoolOT Top 25 West softball poll, while Oak Grove was outside the compiled list despite only having one blemish on its overall record.
North Davidson extended its winning streak to eight games following a five-run decision against rival Oak Grove. The Black Knights fell in their home and season opener versus No. 3 East Forsyth (4A) by a 4-1 score.

Northwood 5-foot-9 senior forward Ashlyn Rable is averaging a double-double 11 points and 10 rebounds after the Rangers first two games.
The only issue is that Northwood lost those games to Woodmore 64-34 and to Genoa 48-26. However, the 4-1 Wildcats are looking to be contenders in the Northern Buckeye Conference this year, picked to finish second in preseason coaches’ voting and their 6-1 senior post Brooke Allen was closing in on the 1,000-point career mark last week.
