Liberal challenger Brad Battin has resigned from Victoria s shadow ministry after a failed attempt at ousting Opposition Leader Michael O Brien.
The motion was defeated 22 votes to nine yesterday despite almost one third of the 31 Liberal MPs supporting the spill.
Nick Wakeling and Ryan Smith have stepped down from the frontbench over their involvement.

I have attended the Australian Open every year for at least the past decade. But not this year.
It is clear the mighty dollar is driving the decision to proceed, despite the risk of a COVID-19 outbreak (we’re still not confident our government has learnt its lessons from the second wave), and many Victorians stranded interstate not allowed back in, while about 1200 tennis stars and their entourages arrive.
“Any restrictions on the travel of Victorians have to be proportionate with human rights, including freedom of movement, and the government needs to explain why home quarantine is not an option for Victorians in the red zone who wish to return home,” Ms Kretzenbacher said.
Victoria s Chief Health Officer, Brett Sutton, said on Monday that there was no “rigid criteria” of what would trigger a region from changing to a red zone and the border closing, although 14 days without community transmission in red zones was among the factors that would be considered.
Professor Sutton said mystery cases, exposure sites and case numbers would also feed into the decision-making: All of those elements . are reviewed continuously.”
