Kangaloo: Senators, wear your masks
Christine Kangaloo
SENATE President Christine Kangaloo on Tuesday warned senators to wear their face masks properly as a precaution against covid19. May I just reminded senators you are supposed to be wearing the mask while you are in the chamber and wearing the mask properly? I am now seeing where some senators have the mask beneath their noses. That s not the right way to wear it. It makes no sense to be wearing the mask if that s what you re doing. Please don t put me in the position of now being the mask police and having to call out senators for not wearing their mask properly.
WASA CEO Alan Poon King. -
LAND and Physical Infrastructure Joint Select Committee (JSC) chairman Deoroop Teemal observed on Wednesday that out of the eight top executive posts in the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA), people are acting in seven of them.
Teemal made the comment after Opposition Senator Anil Roberts asked WASA CEO Alan Poon King, during a virtual committee meeting, whether or not he has been confirmed in that position.
In response, Poon King said, I have been acting in the position since December 2018.
He added that WASA s board will be directed by the Public Utilities Ministry in due course as to whether or not he will be confirmed.
A money issue at regional corporations is adding to peopleâs problems to get water.
Acting permanent secretary in the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government Raymond Seepaul says municipal corporations, particularly in rural areas, are facing a funding challenge to provide communities without water with a truck-borne supply.
The ministry provides oversight for the 14 corporations.
Seepaul said according to a survey conducted by the ministry, among all 14 municipal corporations the total average of truck-borne water supplies on a daily Âbasis amounted to 63,800 gallons.
âWhat we would have been informed about is the actual supply needed by these municipal corporations was more in tune of 25.5 million gallons. This would be an annual supply. So this is basically the reality that exists. We are also looking at an overall number of households in the vicinity of 5,000,â Seepaul said.
