Messenger scholarship winners announced | News, Sports, Jobs

Six graduating high school seniors have received scholarships from The Messenger to attend Iowa Central Community College. ”The Messenger and its employees are proud of our ongoing relationship with Iowa Central Community College,” said Terry Christensen, the publisher of the newspaper. ”The annual scholarship program is such a wonderful opportunity to reward students in our region.” Here’s an introduction to the scholarship winners. Courtney Colshan Colshan, of Manson, will graduate from Manson Northwest Webster High School. She is the daughter of John and Michelle Colshan. In high school, she was a member of the drill team, marching band, color guard, pep band, concert band, and National Honor Society. She was the drill team captain and a member of the All Iowa Honor Dance Team.

bshea@messengernews.net Kate Stucky, the office manager of the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance, has been named the new director of operations and finance for Holy Trinity Parish and St. Edmond Catholic School. She will begin her new responsibilities there on May 10. ”I fully believe in the vision and missions of both St. Edmond Catholic School and Holy Trinity Parish, and I’m very much looking forward to striving to help achieve those,” Stucky said. ”I am already an active member in both the school and the church it seemed like a natural fit,” she added. ”It is also a welcomed bonus to be on the same campus as my children”

cthompson@messengernews.net When Jeanine Nemitz, of Fort Dodge, was a child one of her chores was to clean the church her family attended. “I was trained as a volunteer from a very early age,” said Nemitz, a 1974 Fort Dodge Senior High graduate. “My family went to a small church (Assumption Parish in Coalville) and we would all take turns cleaning the church. That was my first exposure to how volunteers can make a difference. The little kids dusted the pews and as you grew older your jobs got bigger.” That volunteer spirit followed Nemitz into adulthood. As she grew older, she spent time volunteering in schools and eventually coordinated religious education programs at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Fort Dodge.

PATRICIA A. MILEFCHIK Patricia A. Milefchik of Fort Dodge passed away unex­pectedly Wednes­day, Jan­uary 13, 2021 at Iowa Luth­eran Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 18, 2021 at Holy Trinity Church. Burial will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery. A visitation will be 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Masks and social distancing will be required. Patricia was born at Mercy Hospital, Fort Dodge, Iowa on December 2, 1939 to Thomas and Eloise Mallinger. She grew up on a farm seven miles east of Fort Dodge. Pat graduated from St. Edmond Catholic school in 1957 and furthered her education at Iowa Central Community College, obtaining an AA degree in Teacher Education in 1959, Bachelor of Science in Education, Elementary Education from Drake University in 1968 and Master of Science and Education, Supervision in Curriculum and Instruction in 1986. She also did post-graduate work at Drake, UNI, U of I,
