That’s the question two government-related entities Calgary Economic Development (CED) and Alberta Innovates are trying to answer as they devote about $50 million of taxpayer money to the cause.
The Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund, which is administered by CED, announced Wednesday it has issued two different requests for proposals as it strives to see 1,000 startup tech companies established in the city over the next decade.
February job numbers: Minister Schweitzer
Minister of Jobs, Economy and Innovation Doug Schweitzer issued the following statement about the February 2021 Labour Force Survey:

“It is encouraging to see that 17,000 jobs were created in Alberta last month, which brings our unemployment rate to its lowest level in a year.
“This comes after the Conference Board of Canada and BMO projected this week that Alberta will lead Canada in economic growth. It’s not time to pop champagne corks, but this is hopefully the beginning of a bounce-back for Alberta’s economy and job market.
