Bumper season: Rotorua humming as summer event calendar fills up 20 Dec, 2020 06:00 PM 4 minutes to read Rotorua is set for a bumper summer season of events with one organiser saying the town has been humming as the weather warms up. Weekend markets, summer festivals, Christmas gatherings and sports events will fill every weekend in the city right through to the end of March. More than 40,000 people were expected to attend the events, according to the Rotorua Lakes Council. The Government is investing $3.75 million for regional events in Rotorua, Taupō, Waikato and Ruapehu. Local regional tourism organisations, alongside their council partners, have worked together to develop a collaborative regional events investment plan for the next two to three years to bring more visitors to their regions.

Tomorrow there will be plenty to get stuck into at the Christmas Festival in Jean Batten Square, located between Rotorua Library and the Rotorua i-SITE and Visitor Centre. As well as visiting Santa s Wonderland there is a wide range of free activities for kids to enjoy, including stilt walkers, giant bubbles, Christmas plaster painting, crafts, balloon and drumming workshops, crafts and face painting.
