The North Carolina General Assembly was expected to make a decision on June 30 on whether to repeal the town charter for the East Laurinburg community of Scotland County, but that hasn t happened.
The Local Government Commission (LGC) unanimously approved a resolution earlier this year recommending that the General Assembly repeal the town charter of East Laurinburg, according to a news release from the North Carolina Dept. of State Treasurer.
The North Carolina Dept. of State Treasurer s Office said the action was taken “after town officials failed to file state-required financial audit reports the past four years and failed repeatedly to comply with other requirements of the Local Government Budget and Fiscal Control Act.”
