Piedmont man dies in head-on collision Mineral Daily News-Tribune BARTON - A Piedmont man lost his life Thursday afternoon in a head-on collision on state Route 36 near the Maryland Department of Highways salt dome. According to the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, Brian E. Billmyre, 60, of Piedmont, was driving a pickup truck south on Route 36 while Anthony Robert Moses, 57, of Lonaconing, was operating a bus north. The sheriff’s office said Billmyre was pronounced dead on the scene of the 1:30 p.m. accident. Moses, who had to be cut out of his vehicle, was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown by Trooper 5.

Allegany County Sheriff s Office drone aids in Alma rescue

The Sheriff’s Office obtained the drone about three years ago with a Homeland Security grant. Whitney estimated it cost between $40,000-$50,000. The sheriff said the drone has been requested a handful of times in search operations.   “We can use it for just about anything,” said Whitney. “We can also use it for our mapping department to look at something, or if an area is flooded or something like that we could get in and assess the situation.”  The night vision proved essential when navigating the Allegany County countryside.  “It gets pretty dark in Alma. There’s not many street lights up there,” the sheriff quipped.

The schools cumulatively are seeking to purchase over 4,000 pounds of fresh, unprocessed, in-season vegetables and fruits of the following varieties: Cauliflower, Broccoli, Zucchini/Summer Squash, Winter Squash, Onions, Bell Peppers, Strawberries, Blueberries, Green Beans, Carrots, Snow Peas, Raspberries, and Blackberries.

The officer, PJ Sherman, stopped to help a soon to be 80-year-old resident chip ice from her driveway on a frigid January day. The email was written by the woman’s daughter.

A Maryland sheriff’s deputy on patrol near Cumberland pulled over a car and discovered a trio taking part in a project to drive an American flag across the country. The occupants, identified as Paul, Andrew and Andrew’s son Brandon, are involved in the Flag Called Freedom project, according to the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies posed with the group and their flag to show support for law enforcement, as well as all flag loving, hardworking, patriotic Americans, according to a post on the sheriff’s Facebook page.
