Day two of the NSAA State Track and Field Tournament saw new, and old, champions crowned on Thursday at Burke Stadium. In the boys shot put, Omaha North s Tristan Gray takes the gold after a throw of 61 feet, 2 inches. Papillion-La Vista s Norah Sis captured first in the girls high jump after clearing 5 8 on her final attempt.Omaha Burke junior Devon Jackson was dominant on the day, running the 100 meter dash in 10.57 seconds and the 200 meter dash in 21.63 seconds to take home two gold medals at the meet.In the 300 meter boys hurdles, Omaha North s Cameron Gunn narrowly edged Abe Hoskins of Omaha Central to take first in a near photo finish.Omaha Marian s Lauren Harris capped her career on the track with her third straight gold medal in the girls 400 meter dash.Elkhorn South is the Class A boys team champion with 88 points.Fremont took the Class A girls crown, beating out Lincoln Southwest with 83 points.

FLANDREAU – Former Miller cross country and track coach Tom McGough will be inducted into the South Dakota Cross Country and Track and Field Coaches Association Hall of Fame during the 2021 State High School Track Meet.
McGough, an alum of Stanley County High School and Northern State University, spent 39 of his 46 years in education in Miller, where the Rustlers had success in conference, region and state.
In 2002, McGough was named as the South Dakota High School Coaches Association Cross Country Coach of the Year and the NHSACA Circle of Champions Coach of the Year. He has served for years on the Cross Country and Track and Field Advisory Committee of the SDHSAA.
The High School Track and Field season enters the conference meet stage today.
The 13 schools from the WaMaC Conference will converge on Independence. The coverage area schools the Mustangs will host include West Delaware and Beckman.
The 14 schools of the Tri-Rivers Conference will be in Alburnett, including Maquoketa Valley, Ed-Co, North Linn, Starmont and East Buchanan.
The Western Dubuque girls will be in Cedar Falls and the Bobcat boys at Loras College in Dubuque for the Mississippi Valley Conference Mississippi Divisonal.
And the 14 River Valley Conference schools will be in Anamosa, including Monticello and Cascade.
The TRC meet will start with field events at 4:00 with the other meets beginning at 4:30.

NORWICH Every Hanover High softball player scored at least one run as the Marauders picked up their first victory of the spring season in a 22-10 defeat of Fall Mountain on Monday afternoon.
Hanover (1-4) entered the bottom of the fifth with a two-run lead and scored nine times in the frame to force the mercy rule. Freshman Sage Johnson drove in senior Grace Lewandowski on a sacrifice for the walk-off win.
Senior Emilee Jones pitched all five innings for the Marauders. Junior Izzy Kachikis went 4-for-4 with four singles, four runs scored and one stolen base.
