Brockville council’s economic development, recreation and tourism committee is recommending the full council direct staff to maintain Brockville’s spot in the 2022 tall ships event, despite the prospect of fewer ships and a drop in revenue, both resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The risk of not hosting it and losing the opportunity to host it then when the ships make their return in three years is very real,” said Coun. Jane Fullarton, who chairs the committee.

Brockville council’s economic development, recreation and tourism committee is expected next week to discuss whether or not to seek a spot in a 2022 tall ships event, despite the prospect of fewer ships and lower revenue.
The committee will meet Tuesday to give staff direction on the matter.
Brockville has now hosted three editions of the Tall Ships Festival, in 2013, 2016 and 2019. The next Tall Ships Festival for the Great Lakes is scheduled to be in the summer of 2022.
