After Bitter Congressional Race, Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse Named Provincetown Town Manager

The Provincetown Select Board has chosen Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse to be their next town manager. Morse lost a bitter congressional primary fight last year against Rep. Richard Neal during which Democratic officials supported a smear campaign suggesting Morse had made inappropriate overtures to young men.
The 31-year-old Morse was among three finalists for the Provincetown position. He had previously announced he was not seeking re-election after serving as Holyoke s mayor for 10 years; the Provincetown Select Board voted 5-0 in favor of hiring him Thursday night.
Roosevelt claimed âthe Jacques report found that there was no homophobic intent or action in the actions by Gus Bickford,â while Jacques instead said that she did not make findings either way on the “motivations” for any actions taken â a clarification helpfully located at the top of the report on the first page. Roosevelt also said, âMayor Morse responded and acknowledged there were no false allegations.â While Morse has acknowledged “concerns” and apologized for making anyone uncomfortable, he never made a statement on the nature of the allegations â since, in fact, no concrete allegations were made.
