April 29, 2021 LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan on Wednesday took exception to use of social media by the civil servants and hinted at passing an appropriate order in this regard. The chief justice observed that the civil servants should submit details of their cellular numbers and social media accounts to the relevant departments. He remarked that the departments should decide a code for the civil servants to use social media. CJ Khan was hearing a petition against holding of protest/strike by the public functionaries and running a campaign against the judiciary on social media in the wake of the arrest of an assistant commissioner ordered by a civil judge in Sahiwal.

LHC CJ directs FIA to take action on anti-judiciary propaganda

National February 12, 2021 LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan on Thursday directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to take action against the persons involved in anti-judiciary propaganda on YouTube. The CJ also directed the FIA to examine remarks and programmes aired on all television channels about the judiciary and submit a report. Earlier, a counsel for Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) told the court that licence of a television channel Bol was suspended for doing a contemptuous programme against the judiciary. However, he said, the channel obtained a stay from the Sindh High Court. The CJ asked the Pemra’s counsel about the lawful boundaries of the freedom of expression in the country and the jurisdiction of the authority to take action if someone hurled abuses at the judiciary.

Strike, protest allegedly against judiciary: LHC CJ summons Punjab CS, all Commissioners

National January 15, 2021 LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Thursday summoned Punjab Chief Secretary, all the Commissioners in the province and the Chairman of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) in a matter relating to the strike/protest by public servants in support of former Assistant Commissioner Sahiwal who was handcuffed by a civil judge for defying a judicial order. Chief Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan also ordered the Pemra to identify, with the support of National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), the protestors who were holding placards and banners inscribed with contemptuous slogans at the protest. Sahiwal’s former Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Haider was also present in the court besides other government officials when the Chief Justice took up a petition against the strike and the protest held by the public servants allegedly against the judiciary.
