Members of the Health Ministry’s national forum for dealing with the coronavirus outbreak said Monday that no discussions had been held with experts ahead of Health Minister Yuli Edelstein’s announcement that almost all remaining virus restrictions will be lifted at the beginning of next month.
According to the Kan public broadcaster, one unnamed member of the forum expressed great surprise at the decision and raised questions as to the motives behind it.
Others told the outlet that they had only heard about the decision from news reports and suspected there were political motives behind the move.

The wife of New Hope MK Ze’ev Elkin has filed a police complaint against supporters of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who verbally attacked her outside the family’s Jerusalem home.
Videos posted to Twitter Monday showed a group of Likud activists cursing and screaming at Elkin’s wife, Maria, as she stood by herself outside her home.

A primetime speech by Ra’am party chairman Mansour Abbas, in which he called for political cooperation between Jews and Arabs, drew praise from some left-wing and right-wing politicians on Thursday night.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s far-right allies, however, were seething, with Religious Zionism leader Bezalel Smotrich reportedly refusing to take the premier’s phone calls to discuss the prospect of forming a right-wing government supported by Ra’am.
Abbas, whose Islamist party won four seats in the Knesset, emerged as an unlikely possible kingmaker after last week’s inconclusive election. Though he has expressed willingness to partner with either Netanyahu or his rivals whichever offered a better deal benefiting Arab Israelis he has yet to endorse a candidate, and said on Thursday he had no desire to be part of either camp.
