Ted Chapin
Ted Chapin has announced he will step down as president and chief creative officer of The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization at the end of his current contract later this month, ending a four decades-long career shepherding the musical theatre titans catalog of musicals. Itâs astonishing to me just how fast time passes when you love what you do, says Chapin. I canât help but feel that, over the course of our time together, this incredible organization and I have helped each other grow and flourish in ways that could never have been anticipated 40 years ago,â said Chapin. âAs I look forward to the next act of my life in the theatre, I take with me cherished memories, dear friends, andâabove allâgratitude. I am confident that Concord will continue to steward this catalog with passion and care.
Richard Rodgers, (born June 28, 1902, New York City died Dec. 30, 1979, New York City), one of the dominant composers of American musical comedy, known especially for his works in collaboration with the librettists Lorenz Hart and Oscar Hammerstein II.
As a youth Rodgers composed songs for amateur boys’ club shows. In 1918 he entered Columbia University. There he met Hart, with whom he collaborated on Columbia’s varsity show of 1919,
Fly with Me. After a year and a half he left Columbia, intending to work full time composing for the musical theatre. He studied composition for two years at the Institute of Musical Art (now Juilliard School of Music), New York City, and produced several amateur shows with Hart.

What is your personal relationship with Edith Piaf s music?
I love singing in French. that said. I resisted a show on Piaf. I had never done an autobiographical show and I felt an unnerving sense of responsibility to do justice to such an iconic artist. And I know this will sound a little peculiar. she started haunting me. a lot! I ended up doing not one, but two very different shows on Piaf. One, a concert version for a French Canadian musical director, Raphael Derkson, who had pestered me for years about Piaf!! And one, for the Parisian choreographer Pascal Rioult & his modern dance company, Rioult Dance NY. singing Piaf w/beautiful dancers swirling all around me! The shows were so wonderfully inspiring and Piaf herself so intriguing as an artist & person, I ended up creating my own show.
