COLUMBIA - With temperatures dropping, more warming centers opened in mid-Missouri to provide a shelter from the cold. In Columbia, the Wabash Bus Station will be open at nights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. through the evening of Saturday, Feb. 13.  Columbia s other regular warming centers are: Activity and Recreation Center: Monday – Friday: 5:30 a.m. – 9:30 p.m., Saturday: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m., Sunday: 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Boone County Government Center: Monday – Friday: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services: Monday – Friday: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. There will be no fares on GoCoMo buses all day for residents to ride and stay warm.

Columbia shelters prepare for extreme weekend cold COLUMBIA. Mo. (KMIZ) Local shelters are taking extra steps to make sure that people are provided a space through the weekend as Mid-Missouri enters temperatures in single digits. The Room at the Inn homeless shelter will open an overflow site at Rock Bridge Christian Church on Saturday evening, the organization said on its Facebook page. The shelter already has locations at the Unitarian Church and the Eastwood Motel. If these locations are full, guests will be shuttled to Rock Bridge Christian Church. Debby Graham, Room at the Inn board president, said, Unitarian Universalist Church can accommodate 36 guests, Eastwood shelter can accommodate 26-27 guests, and RBCC would be able to shelter 16 guests.
