The murder of George Floyd coupled with the COVID-19 pandemic led to cities and towns declaring racism a public health crisis.

In 2020, a year already marked by tragedy and upheaval, one day in late May became an inflection point. “There’s not going to be one piece of legislation that’s going to fix this because we have to fix culture more than policy,” Boyd said.
