• Building economic resilience
The Minister of Economic Opportunities and Finance, David Maynier, said: work done by our Red Tape Reduction Unit is an excellent example of how we are working hard to improve the ease of doing business and create an enabling environment for businesses to grow and create jobs in the Western Cape. Since its launch in 2011, our Red Tape Reduction Unit has helped thousands of businesses tackle the obsolete or unnecessary bureaucracy that restricts their growth. In this financial year alone, they have dealt with over 1 270 cases and have maintained an overall resolution rate of 80%.
Minister Maynier added: Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, we have worked hard to help businesses in the Western Cape to open safely, and most recently the Department of Economic Development and Tourism have secured the services of an occupational health & safety (OHS) agency to assist businesses at no cost.”

In the past, Robyne would interrupt others when they were trying to communicate with her, and she would listen to respond but has since learned to appreciate the power of being fully present and attentive when others are speaking. Cape Town â Halving the murder rate in the province was listed as one of Premier Alan Windeâs top priorities in his State of the Province Address (Sopa) yesterday.
The Western Cape Safety Plan he announced would be his most ambitious to date.
âThis plan is an evidence-based, data-led, and all-of-government intervention that not only sees us taking up a policing function, but also smartly pursuing violence prevention strategies that will make a real difference in our communities,â he said.
âTo date, we have already introduced 500 âboots on the groundâ in key violence hot spots in the metro. And we are going to increase this by another 500 LEAP officers by the end of this year, with the last group of officers deployed by October 2021.â
As part of its efforts to decrease crime, the Western Cape government will employ another 500 Law Enforcement Advancement Plan officers for violence hotspots and look at changing alcohol legislation.
