State panel says West Peoria was wrong to punish local bar after violence there last summer WEST PEORIA (WEEK) - Facing the threat of losing its entertainment license, a West Peoria bar has won an appeal in its battle with the local government. West Peoria city leaders sought to prevent repeats of violent incidents that happened at Crusens on Farmington Road last summer by revoking the bar s entertainment license. The business appealed successfully before the Illinois Liquor Control Commission, disagreeing with the city that the type of pop music played at the bar would bring a more violent crowd. West Peoria does not present any testimony or evidence by which to prove such a claim, the state panel said in its ruling.

6 DeKalb retailers fail tobacco compliance checks

Northern Star DeKALB – The DeKalb Police Department found six local establishments operating in violation of the law by selling tobacco to minors, according to an April 5 DeKalb Police Department news release. The six establishments not in compliance include Northern Fresh Market, 1013 W. Hillcrest Drive, Quick Stop, 910 Pappas Drive, Dekalb Food Mart, 850 Pappas Drive, The Smoke Shop, 818 W. Lincoln Highway, Jewel-Osco, 1320 Sycamore Road, and Ash Petroleum, 2400 Sycamore Road. The police department issued ordinance violations for the “Sale of Tobacco to a Minor” for each establishment, according to the news release. A total of 36 establishments were inspected throughout the city. The compliance checks performed March 6 are used to determine if local tobacco retailers are complying with local minimum-age tobacco laws which prohibit the sale of tobacco to minors.
