This bi-weekly podcast series dives deep into the stories behind the subjects of the exhibit with newly taped interviews from key players, artists, families and authors, and includes historical perspectives. Dan Fogelberg was intertwined with Peoria, where his father, the inspiration for the hit song Leader of the Band, taught music.
The Land of Lincoln connections are well-chronicled with Alison Krauss, Chance the Rapper, Styx, Cheap Trick and REO Speedwagon voted in 2018 the top musicians in Illinois history by participants in the Illinois Top 200 project, a part of the state’s bicentennial celebration.
The exhibit is designed to give visitors a chaotic backstage feel with freight elevators and roll up doors interspersed throughout. There are audio plug-ins so visitors can hear music from their favorite artists.
The next special exhibit at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum will explore the amazing musical history of Illinois by putting the spotlight on legends like rockers Cheap Trick, jazz great Miles Davis, bluegrass queen Alison Krauss and âking of soulâ Sam Cooke.
 âThe State of Sound: A World of Music from Illinoisâ will feature one-of-a-kind artifacts that can be seen nowhere else, including:
Benny Goodmanâs clarinet
Howlinâ Wolfâs harmonica
Dan Fogelbergâs guitar
An Earth, Wind & Fire stage costume
 The exhibit also includes short films on different musical genres and a working studio where radio hosts are invited to broadcast their shows.
