Stand up for fairness, Mr Speaker

Stand up for fairness, Mr Speaker FMT Editors © Provided by Free Malaysia Today It is the duty of the Speaker of the House, Azhar Azizan Harun, to ensure fairness, even on media representation. (Bernama pic) A meeting of Parliament long awaited by the whole country is about to get under way. There’s much to be discussed after the last meeting which ended on Dec 29 last year. Over the past seven months, we have had a state of emergency, numerous lockdowns of various kinds, a healthcare system on the verge of collapse and, as of yesterday, more than 17,000 infections in a day.

Track the figures on serious Covid-19 cases, says expert

Track the figures on serious Covid-19 cases, says expert Nicholas Chung © Provided by Free Malaysia Today A former health deputy director-general says there has clearly been a change in the disease pattern over the last one to two months. (Reuters pic) PETALING JAYA: The number of hospital admissions of Covid-19 patients, especially among those in Categories 4 and 5, will reveal the true burden on the healthcare system, according to an infectious disease expert. Commenting on how most Covid-19 cases reported daily were in Categories 1 and 2, former health deputy director-general Dr Christopher Lee said these patients could deteriorate in mere days. Lee told FMT the categorisation of cases at their point of diagnosis was more telling of the fact that the health ministry was testing people early, evidenced by the large number of Category 1 and 2 cases daily.
