Entries are now open for the 2021 Hauraki Coromandel
Business Awards. The event is being held on October 28 this
year after the 2020 awards were postponed due to
COVID-19.
Committee chair Kate Rigg says “The last
year has been an incredibly challenging time for businesses.
But people in our region have shown extraordinary resilience
as they’ve managed their business through this period, and
that’s something we want to acknowledge and
celebrate.”
There are seven categories that
businesses can enter: Emerging Business, Hospitality,
Manufacturing & Trade, Professional Services, Retail,
Rural and Primary Industries, and Tourism. There’s also

The Whitianga Scallop Festival Evolves Sustainably

is currently a rāhui (no harvest) in place for the
collection of scallops in theOpito Bay area, and elsewhere
in New Zealand. The sustainability of scallopslocally and
nationally is a priority for Whitianga Scallop Festival Inc.
In observingthe need for the rāhui and the need to ensure
the regeneration of scallops, thefestival organisers will
focus on offering a variety of seafood from New
Zealandwaters this year as the local scallop beds are left
to rest.

Another cash lifeline is being rolled out to
the regions after the approval of funding towards a wide
range of events and activities to stimulate domestic
tourism.
Contracts have now been signed with all nine
regional tourism groupings to enable the $50 million
Regional Events Fund to be distributed around the
country.
“Event organisers and tourism operators
from Northland to Southland will benefit from the events
outlined in the plans from their regional organisations,”
said Tourism Minister Stuart Nash.
