THE BIG STAGE: I didn t immediately recognize Ryleigh Modig from the photograph the Telegram & Gazette ran of the 18-year-old Spencer woman competing on “The Voice.” She had changed a lot since she won WCCA TV s “New Voices Awards,” which aired in January 2017. But as soon as I clocked the name, I remembered how impressive a singer she was, and going back to watch the video of her “Voice” audition, it was clear how much she d grown as a vocalist. Death Over Simplicity sets his own tone with ‘Til There’s Nothing Left’

Without a solid beat, rap is just another kind of poetry. Samples from classic tracks often find a way of creeping in to establish a groove and when the syncopation is on point then it can deliver an incredible listening experience.
Beats are vital to hip-hop the way cheese is vital to macaroni or how gasoline is vital to a running automobile. You can’t have one without the other and Worcester hip-hop artist Death Over Simplicity, also known as D.O.S., has been making his own beats for the past few months. The latest edition of his output is the beat tape “Til There’s Nothing Left,” which came out Feb. 5.

IN DEMAND: As demand for the COVID-19 vaccine escalates, we re still hearing stories of people who by all means definitely should be getting vaccinated early having troubles. One story that stuck out came to us from Worcester disability activist Deb Ellstrom, who wrote to tell of her travails trying to get her 87-year-old mother vaccinated at Gillette Stadium. Isn t this vaccine to be distributed free, and without administrative costs? Then: why all this detailed insurance that s only used for billing? Something s up here, and it leaves a foul flavor behind. I called my
