CEDAR CITY The Iron County Attorney s Office has filed charges in a nearly 17-year-old cold case rape investigation in Cedar City. The big break in the case came when police in Arizona used familial DNA testing to identify a possible suspect in a rape case in Flagstaff that investigators believed was committed by the same man nine months earlier. David Louis Slade, 59, of Eager, Arizona, was charged Monday in 5th District Court with rape and attempted forcible sodomy, both first-degree felonies; two counts of forcible sexual abuse and burglary, both second-degree felonies. On July 9, 2004, a woman was in her apartment when her boyfriend left for work about 6 a.m., according to the charging documents. Shortly after, she heard a noise at her bedroom door and thought it was her boyfriend. But when she got to the door, it was someone else who forced his way in, the charges state.

CEDAR CITY A Cedar City man already charged with burying human remains in a cellar and pouring concrete over them is now directly accused of killing his mother. Amended criminal charges have been filed in the case of Joshua James Glover, 33, in 5th District Court. Glover was originally charged in September with abuse or desecration of a body, a second-degree felony, but now he also faces a charge of murder, a first-degree felony. Kay Gosewisch, 73, disappeared in April 2020. Police were first called to conduct a welfare check at her Cedar City home on July 31. But the investigation started to pick up momentum about two weeks later when officers were asked to look into suspicious activity regarding the woman s bank account. Her son, Glover, had attempted to withdraw several thousand dollars and had been using his mother s account regularly to withdraw money, according to court documents.

KUER State and local officials at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new crime lab based in the Utah Department of Public Safety building in Iron County. A new southern Utah crime lab opened in Cedar City on Monday. Local and state officials hope it will cut down on the length of investigations for law enforcement in the southern part of the state. The lab can process DNA, blood and substance testing usually those samples would be sent to the state’s main center in Taylorsville. Chad Dotson, the Iron County Attorney, said it will help speed up the timeline for investigating things like drug distrubtion, sexual assault and murder.
