A round of applause, please, for Republican governors, who continue to support the traditional American work ethic.
“Newly released data from the U.S. Labor Department confirms that Republican governors are leading the way in getting Americans back to work,” said a new analysis from the Republican National Committee which parsed the federally issued numbers.
“Jobs are rising and unemployment is lower in states with Republican governors and legislatures. Seventeen of the top 20 states which have recovered jobs since the pandemic hit are led by Republican governors, and 18 of the top 20 states have Republican-controlled legislatures,” the GOP report said.

School choice, in-person instruction bills advance to Senate floor for debate Tuesday, January 26, 2021 11:10 AM Two Republican-led education bills advanced Monday in the Iowa Senate, the Iowa Capital Dispatch reported. One bill, Senate Study Bill 1064, would require schools to offer full-time, in-person instruction during the ongoing pandemic, while a second, SSB 1065, would financially support more options for students to attend private schools. Gov. Kim Reynolds, a Republican, identified both issues as priorities for the legislative session. The Senate Education Committee approved both bills, which are now eligible for debate by the full Senate. Democratic senators joined school administrators, students and activists who spoke against the latter school choice bill, contending it would channel money away from public schools, would favor already-advantaged students and could adversely affect diversity in schools.
