A muon is a negatively charged particle with a similar profile to an electron (both are classified as leptons). But the mass of the muon is 200 times greater than that of its ethereal cousin the electron. In nature, muons are produced by high-energy interactions involving particles of matter, including those that occur when molecules in the Earth’s upper atmosphere are bombarded by cosmic rays .
Since they can also be reliably created inside powerful particle accelerators , muons make ideal experimental “subjects” for physicists studying the nature of reality and those looking for new forces of nature. The Friends of Land Between the Lakes have released its jam-packed programming for the month of April.
The group is inviting all home educating families to use the outdoors as a classroom for Homeschool Month during April at the Woodlands Nature Station.
Homeschooling families can pick up a âNature Discovery Activity Bookâ at the Nature Station that will be able to guide children through a variety of exploration activities and teach about nature through various subjects.
The Nature Station is open everyday in April and books and activities are available from the station from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The group has special programs specifically geared for homeschoolers scheduled throughout the weekdays and month.
Despite the temporary closures, nature-based recreation opportunities are available on many of these sites and trails.
Visitors are strongly encouraged to call 863-668-4673 before their visit to Circle B Bar Reserve to receive up-to-date information on which trails are closed as this will change as management activities evolve.
