A new learning platform has been launched to harmonise the training of paediatric surgeons and to help to scale up access to safe, affordable and timely surgical care for children in Africa.
The platform is an initiative of 70 African surgeons from the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) and the West African College of Surgeons (WACS) in partnership with the Institute of Global Surgery at Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dublin.

A charity set up by an Aberdeen businessman has launched a new learning tool to improve children’s surgery in Africa.
Garreth Wood and his wife Nicola launched the Kids Operating Room (KidsOR) five years ago and their latest project will help trainee surgeons learn the latest techniques.
The platform has been built by the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland (RCSI) using the expertise of more than 70 African surgeons and will be used in 26 nations in west, central, east and southern Africa.
15-year-old JSS1 student electrocuted in Benue

A 15-year-old student of Benue State University Technical College, Emmanuel Ameh has been electrocuted in the Achussa community of Makurdi the Benue state capital.
The JSS1 student reportedly met his untimely death owing to the alleged negligence of the staff of Jos Electricity Distribution Company, JED, in Makurdi.
Narrating the incident to newsmen on Thursday, uncle to the diseased, Mr Samuel Olokpo, said the victim who until his death lived with his grandmother, Mr Veronica Odoh at Baver Dzeremo street was killed while rolling up service cables carelessly dropped by officials of JED who visited the neighbourhood to disconnect debtors.
