The CM said that the Himachal Pradesh Science, Technology, and Environment Council is organising various programs such as Children Science Conference, National Science Day, National Mathematics Day, Eclipse Observation, throughout the year for promotion and popularisation of science.

The Uttarakhand glacier disaster which left a trail of death and destruction in its wake has set off fresh alarm bells in neighbouring Himachal Pradesh, which is vulnerable to Glacier Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) and prone to major avalanches, mostly in the geologically unstable trans-Himalayan regions of Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti.
A study by the State Centre on Climate Change, set-up under the Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, Technology and Environment (HIMCOSTE) shows that the Satluj basin had a total 562 lakes in 2019 “out of which about 81% (458) lakes are small ones with area less than 5 ha, about 9% (53) falls within the aerial range of 5-10 ha and about 9% (51) are the big one with area more than 10 ha.”

Pushpa Gujral Science City in association with the Himachal Pradesh State Council for Science, Technology and Environment, celebrated National Mathematics Week by organising online workshops.
As many as 900 students from different schools of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab participated in various events.
Kamlesh Kumar Pant, Principal Secretary, Environment, Science and Technology, Government of Himachal Pradesh, was the chief guest.
He said the Himachal Government was conscious of the need to strengthen teaching of mathematics in schools as the subject cuts across all other subjects, including science, engineering, economics, commerce and social sciences.
He said the main objective of organising this event was to highlight the development, assembly, implementation of teaching and learning materials for mathematics and other related areas in research.
