FRESH plans for a townhouse development in the centre of Ipswich close to the showgrounds and the University of Southern Queensland campus have been submitted to the council for approval.
Martin and Sheila Liney lodged a development application to Ipswich City Council to build eight two-storey townhouses on land over 1 and 1b Salisbury Road.
The application notes approval for a development with nine three-storey units on the same site had already been given the green light by the council. The proposal is for eight two-storey units.
“The current proposal is intended to replace that approval,” the application stated.
“Basically to get people thinking about it.”

“Sometimes (the parents) just ignore the kids but sometimes they have to explain it and that gets people thinking,” she said.
“We feel very anxious that people are just ignoring what’s happening – they don’t know what to do about it so they pretend it’s not happening.”
On Friday, a woman visiting the show with her grandchildren stopped to chat with the trio.

IN LITTLE more than 72 hours, thousands of attendees will once again walk through the gates of Ipswich Showgrounds, signalling the return of the city’s beloved Ipswich Show.
It will be the first major multi-day event to take place for the city in 2021 after organisers were last year forced to cancel it due to COVID-19 lockdown.
While kick-off for the three-day event nears, seasoned workers setting up sideshow alley and food stalls remain cool, calm and collected despite the big job at hand. The popular dodgem cars will likely draw crowds come Friday.
