Financial autonomy: JUSUN disagrees as NGF fixes May date The Punch

The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, Kayode Fayemi, on Monday said the state governors and other stakeholders had reached an agreement on the implementation of financial autonomy for state legislature and judiciary.
Although he did not disclose the details of the agreement reached, he assured the nation that the implementation would start in May.
Fayemi, who is also the governor of Ekiti State, disclosed this in an interview with State House correspondents after a meeting of the technical committee on the matter chaired by the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof Ibrahim Gambari, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

FOLLOWING the directive by the president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Olumide Akpata, lawyers nationwide staged a protest on Monday to demand financial autonomy for the judiciary.
There was, however, a drama as security officials locked the gate of the National Assembly and denied the lawyers entry.
They had earlier converged at the Court of Appeal gate before proceeding to the National Assembly in their numbers, to register their demands. Security officials, upon sighting the lawyers in their vehicles, locked up the two gates to the National Assembly.

Based on “Section 25 (1) of Kaduna State Independent Electoral Law as amended in 2018, we said the local government elections will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2021, between the hours of 8 am and 4 pm,” he said.
With the announcement, he said political parties are expected to conduct primaries between February 26 and March 28 to elect candidates for the elections.
In Oyo, the chairman of the state electoral body, Abiola Olagunju (SAN), on Monday, disclosed that the local government elections in the state will be conducted on Saturday, May 15, 2021.
He made this known at a press conference in Ibadan, saying also that guidelines for the elections and time-table have been released.
