Heart Laurels Earned by Trio
Oskaloosa–Three Statesmen softball players received their first career league hardware as the all-Heart of America Athletic Conference awards were announced Thursday.
Third baseman Valeria Quiroga (Fr., San Benito, Texas, Sociology) was one of 20 players named to the first team, while first baseman Lexi Riccardi (Sr., Redwood City, Calif., Biology) garnered second-team recognition (20 players on the second team). Catcher Lexi Resa (Jr., Liberty, Mo., Biology) was part of the 20-person honorable-mention list as well.
The awards are the first for all three players. The trio helped William Penn to a 20-30 campaign, including a 13-22 Heart record. WPU finished in the top six in the league tournament, highlighted by upsetting top seed Grand View in the first round.

Figy Named Second-Team All-Heart
Oskaloosa–Charlie Figy (Fr., Appleton, Wis., Sports Management) was honored for an impressive freshmen campaign as the all-Heart of America Athletic Conference men’s volleyball teams were announced Monday.
Figy was one of 10 individuals named to the second squad. There were also 10 players who earned first-team recognition, while nine more made it onto the honorable-mention team.
The award is the first for Figy, who guided the Statesmen to a 10-17 record (5-12 Heart) in the program’s first complete season.
Figy was a major cog as the WPU’s middle hitter, posting 188 kills on a .362 hitting mark. He also topped the net defense with 103 blocks (16 solos, 87 assists), while managing 46 digs, 18 aces, and eight assists.

NAIA Regular and Tournament Champions William Penn Men’s Basketball Team.
Oskaloosa–The William Penn men’s basketball team will begin its road to a national title by traveling to the Jayhawk State as it earned a berth to the Park City Bracket B as part of the 2020-2021 NAIA Men’s Basketball National Championship Opening Round, presented by Ballogy.
WPU (24-1) is the #1 seed in the three-team bracket in Park, City, Kan. The Statesmen will begin by earning a bye in the event held at Hartman Arena.
